The popular evening race is back, and it’s just the motivation we need to get an energetic running start into a magical summer! The SNF Nostos Run: Running into the Future from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) will once again take place on Olympic Day on June 23, 2022.
The race will be illuminated by the summer sunset and soundtracked by the joyful voices of runners, the Special Olympics athletes participating, and spectators. As every year, the race will start at the Panathenaic Stadium. The route will traverse the city’s main streets—which will belong to the runners alone—to finish at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), where the run will morph into a dance party as the runners join Locomondo for a one-of-a-kind summer concert.
As always, the race will include three routes: 10K, 6K, and a 1K route for Special Olympics athletes. The first two routes will start at the Panathenaic Stadium, at 20:30 and 20:45 respectively.
The run is held under the organizational supervision of Regeneration & Progress and the Department of Sports Excellence of the First Orthopedic Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
A race set to music—for a good cause!
At two points along the route, the musicians of Polyphonica and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Ioannites will help set the pace for the runners with musical performances. In turn, through their participation in the race, the runners will contribute to the work of these two nonprofit organizations working to support young people through music and the arts.
As part of the charitable mission of the SNF Nostos Run, runners are invited to contribute a minimum of €5 (or more if they wish), to support Polyphonica and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Ioannites*.
After the end of the race and the awards ceremony on the SNF Nostos stage, Locomondo will kick off their concert at the Great Lawn at the SNFCC, lifting us up with their reggae, ska, and Latin grooves, followed by a spectacular drone show that will light up the sky above the SNFCC.
The SNF Nostos Run is not competitive in nature, but official times are kept so that runners can track their performance.

*A few words about the partner nonprofits
Polyphonica is an intercultural family. Since 2011, it has offered kids from different backgrounds and different countries—across languages and religions—the opportunity to participate in free workshops on music, contemporary dance, theater, musical instruments, musical theater, and more. The aim of Polyphonica is to encourage children to develop skills through the arts in order to grow in self-confidence and self-esteem, feelings essential to their development as responsible individuals and citizens.
Every week, approximately two hundred excited Polyphonica participants gather to dance, sing, act, and play their instruments. In a safe environment, the children learn how to work together, respect one another, and gain confidence in their abilities. They gain knowledge and experience without necessarily even realizing it, have fun, and share their joy. Polyphonica’s work is supported exclusively by sponsorships and grants.
Contributions from SNF Nostos Run runners will help support Polyphonica’s Music and Inclusion program.
Philharmonic Orchestra of Ioannites
The Philharmonic Orchestra of Ioannites, founded in 1917, offers its community musical and artistic programming and works to cultivate music education for young people. Specifically, it focuses on teaching music theory and offering instruction in wind and percussion instruments, with the aim of integrating students into the orchestra or another musical ensemble. At the same time, the Orchestra also participates in various milestones of local life, such as parades, processions, tributes, and more.
Its repertoire is rich and eclectic, consisting of classical and contemporary works by Greek and international composers. The orchestra comprises 55 musicians, and its music incubator, the Philharmonic Orchestra “Bandina,” includes 40 students. Today, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Ioannites is part of the Public Benefit Enterprise for Culture, Environment, Youth, and Sports of Ioannina.
Contributions from SNF Nostos Run runners will help the Orchestra purchase and replace musical instruments.
SNF Nostos Run is part of SNF Nostos, which this year focuses on the most essential human resource: health. Discover the full SNF Nostos Health program.
