Landscape Architect
Helli Pangalou is a landscape architect and founder of HPA Landscape Architects.
As Lead Landscape Architect, she holds more than 25 years of international design experience, exploring predominantly landscape design and placemaking as dynamic eco-systems that inform and enrich people’s lives and experiences.
In her work, she emphasizes the significance of environmental resilience, the experience of immersion into the ‘Topos’, the identity of the diverse Mediterranean landscape in progress, within an ecologically sustainable design ethos driven by environmental clarity.
She is involved in all aspects of project development, defining key strategies within a large range of projects. She has collaborated with international design teams.
Under the guidance of Renzo Piano, and in collaboration with Deborah Nevins they were responsible for the landscape design of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre SNFCC and the Stavros Niarchos Park , a reference project that received LEED® Platinum and several international awards.
Building on her research on the ancient Asklepieion of Epidaurus and the healing properties of landscape, she has been primarily involved in the landscape design of three major hospital infrastructures in Greece, with lead architect Renzo Piano Building Workshop, as part of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Health Initiative, a strategic intervention in the Greek Health sector.
The creation of healing landscapes for the patients, their families and the hospital personnel, is focusing on the therapeutic properties of nature, contributing to the ideal of healthcare facility centered around the principles of holistic healing.
She has lectured at universities around Europe, and she has participated in international conferences. She has edited books on landscape and Mediterranean ecosystems.
