Dr. Markx attended medical school at the University of Amsterdam and following this, was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to lead a groundbreaking psychiatric genetics research project in New York that led to the identification of several novel genetic causes of debilitating psychiatric disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia. He completed his residency in psychiatry at Columbia University. After graduation, he joined the Columbia Psychiatry faculty and was named Director of Precision Psychiatry. The Markx lab is currently carrying out a number of groundbreaking studies that focus on introducing a precision medicine-based approach to psychiatry.
