Aging-Plus: Addressing layers of complexity in an older person
Friday June 23, 15:00, Alternative Stage GNO
Mental health challenges affect people of all ages, races, ethnicities, socioeconomic statuses, and more. One of the groups that are often left out of the conversation on promoting awareness of and access to mental health resources are older adults. Nancy Harvey, a passionate advocate for older adult mental health care, shares her experiences supporting older adults in New York City by providing access to affordable and quality mental healthcare. She discusses the stigmas around older adult mental health care and how ageism, racism, and homophobia are crucial factors that make it difficult for this community to seek care. Her mission is to encourage older people to feel empowered to seek mental health care and make this resource readily available to everyone.
