Catalyzing change at a global scale: The SNF Global Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health at the Child Mind Institute

This session focused on the Child Mind Institute, which envisions a world where every child can access high-quality mental health care guided by scientifically validated tools and cultural identities. Embracing emerging technologies and open collaboration, CMI aims to scale mental health innovation globally. To achieve this, they have partnered with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to create the SNF Global Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health. The center focuses on initiatives to increase access, quality, and equity in global child mental health care. These initiatives include mapping the landscape of child mental health worldwide, recognizing the significant contribution of conditions such as anxiety, depression, and self-harm to the global disease burden in adolescents. They are working with UNICEF and partners on data collection tools to measure these burdens in lower-income countries. Additionally, the center aims to develop, validate, and disseminate multicultural psychosocial interventions to transform environments like schools and strengthen community-based care. They seek to train future mental health leaders from lower-income countries. Lastly, they are committed to building, testing, and deploying new technologies to augment mental health care and research. This includes mobile toolkits that can create a new model for mental health assessment and intervention, aiming to raise global awareness about child and adolescent mental health.
