In 2014, he retired from his lucrative medical practice in the United States after more than 30 years of service and returned to Ghana full time.
With the help of more than 2,500 donors from across the world, Dr. Boachie-Adjei and the FOCOS Team have raised more than $20 million to support the FOCOS mission. Founded in 1998, FOCOS began with small volunteer mission trips to provide free surgical care to patients. The program developed into four trips each year and the eventual creation of an outpatient clinic to better service patients. Then in 2012, the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital opened its doors as one of the most state-of-the-art facilities of its kind. To date, the FOCOS Team has completed over 2,000 surgeries and has treated nearly 50,000 patients.
